Lansdowne Shooting – 18-Year-Old Man Killed in Shooting After Vehicle Crashes Near North Wycombe Avenue

An 18-year-old Lansdowne man was shot and killed Tuesday night after a vehicle crashed near North Wycombe Avenue and Blackburn Avenue, authorities said, as investigators work to determine what led to the fatal gunfire.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. Sept. 8, when a Lansdowne police officer in the area noticed two men standing near a vehicle. The officer then heard multiple gunshots and saw the vehicle leave the area, according to police.

The vehicle traveled roughly half a block before crashing into a tree. When officers arrived, they found the 18-year-old victim inside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police and emergency personnel attempted to provide medical assistance, but the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name as they continue notifying family members. Police identified him as a Lansdowne resident.

After the crash, two men who had reportedly been seen near the vehicle fled on foot and entered a nearby apartment building, according to investigators. Officers quickly established a perimeter around the building and conducted a search, with police seen moving through the complex with shields and a K-9.

Two people were ultimately detained for questioning. Authorities emphasized that no charges had been filed as of the latest update, and investigators have not publicly identified those individuals as suspects in the killing.

The incident prompted an overnight lockdown at the nearby Marshall House Apartments as officers searched the building and surrounding area. Residents were confronted with a large police presence as detectives worked to determine whether anyone involved in the shooting remained in the area.

The fatal shooting has shocked residents of the Delaware County community, with neighbors describing the area as generally quiet and expressing disbelief that such violence occurred so close to their homes.

Lansdowne Police Chief Kenneth C. Rutherford Jr. described the death as a terrible tragedy and said the department would work to determine what happened and hold those responsible accountable.

Investigators from the Lansdowne Police Department and Delaware County authorities are continuing to examine the shooting, including the circumstances surrounding the vehicle crash and the movements of the people seen fleeing afterward. Detectives are also expected to review available surveillance footage and speak with witnesses who may have heard or seen the gunfire.

A motive has not been released, and authorities have not said whether the victim was specifically targeted. It also remains unclear what happened immediately before the shots were fired.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting, saw the vehicle in the area or has information that could help identify those responsible to come forward.

The investigation remains active as authorities work to reconstruct the events that ended with the death of an 18-year-old member of the Lansdowne community.
