The Kittanning and Freeport communities in Pennsylvania are mourning the loss of Emily Elizabeth Thompson, who died Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 36. Formerly of Freeport, Emily was remembered by family and friends as a warm, kind and spirited woman whose life was marked by a love of family, athletics, the outdoors, animals and the people around her.
Emily was born September 2, 1990, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the only child of Mark D. and Elizabeth Costantino Thompson. She grew up in Freeport and became an active member of the community during her school years.
A 2009 graduate of Freeport High School, Emily distinguished herself both academically and athletically. She ran track and served as the goalie for the Freeport High School girls’ soccer team, experiences that reflected the determination and energy that would remain important parts of her personality throughout her life.
After high school, Emily continued her education at Edinboro University, where she earned a degree in psychology with a focus on neuroscience in 2013. She later pursued advanced education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, continuing to develop her interests and knowledge.
Her life also took her beyond Pennsylvania. Emily spent approximately six years living in Colorado with her husband, Jeremy E. Boltin. During their time there, the couple developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, yoga and running half marathons together.
Emily also embraced the challenges of Colorado’s mountain landscape. She and Jeremy climbed several of the state’s peaks rising above 14,000 feet, creating memories that reflected her adventurous spirit and willingness to challenge herself.
Away from academics and outdoor pursuits, Emily found joy in crafting and had a deep affection for animals. Her dogs, Wilson, Popcorn and Jackson, were an important part of her life, with Jackson holding a particularly special place in her heart.
Emily married Jeremy E. Boltin on October 26, 2022, in Bailey, Colorado. Their marriage brought together two people who shared a love of adventure, the outdoors and an active life.
Those who knew Emily remembered her for qualities that went well beyond her accomplishments. She was described as kind, caring and someone whose sense of humor could brighten the people around her. Her family and friends will now hold close the many memories created during her 36 years of life.
Emily’s passing has left her family facing an immeasurable loss. She is survived by her parents, Mark and Elizabeth Thompson of Freeport, and her husband, Jeremy. She is also survived by her in-laws, Gerald and Linda Boltin of Chicago, along with six sisters-in-law, numerous aunts, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved cousin Jerry Broderick, as well as her paternal grandparents, Shirley and Charles D. Thompson Jr., and her maternal grandparents, John S. and Clare Costantino.
Family and friends will gather to remember Emily during visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 11, at Dennis J. Daugherty Funeral Home in Freeport. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 12, at St. Mary Mother of God Parish in Freeport, with the Very Reverend Eric J. Dinga, V.F., serving as celebrant. A private interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

For those who knew Emily, her death is a painful reminder of how much can be contained within a life that was far too short. She was an athlete, scholar, wife, daughter, friend and devoted animal lover who filled her years with experiences ranging from competitive sports and education to mountain climbing, running and quiet moments spent with family and pets.
Her life crossed several places, from her childhood in Freeport to her years in Colorado and her later home in Kittanning, but the relationships she formed remained at the center of her story.
Emily Thompson leaves behind parents who will mourn the loss of their only child, a husband who shared her life and adventures, extended family members who loved her, and friends who will remember her kindness and humor.
At just 36, her passing has brought profound sadness to everyone who knew her. Yet those who loved Emily will continue to carry forward the memories of her laughter, determination, adventurous spirit and the many moments that made her life special.
As family and friends gather in the days ahead to say goodbye, they will celebrate not simply the years Emily lived, but the life she made within those years. Her memory will remain with the people she loved, the places she called home and the countless experiences she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
