Centreville, VA Shooting: Husband and Wife Found Dead Inside Home as Police Investigate

A husband and wife were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a Centreville, Virginia, home Wednesday evening, September 9, 2026, in a tragic shooting that occurred while their children were also inside the residence.

Fairfax County police were called to the 6300 block of Sharps Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m. after a family member reported a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered inside the home.

Police said the couple were both in their 30s. Their identities had not been publicly released as of the latest reports, pending notification of relatives.

The presence of children inside the home has added another painful dimension to the tragedy. According to investigators, the children were not physically injured. They contacted a family member, who then called 911. The children were subsequently placed in the care of relatives, with Fairfax County Police Victim Services providing support to the family.

Authorities have described the shooting as domestic-related, but investigators have not publicly explained exactly what happened inside the home or identified who fired the weapon. Police have also not released a motive.

Detectives remained at the Sharps Drive residence Wednesday night, canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing people and processing evidence. Police said all individuals believed to be involved had been accounted for and that there was no outstanding suspect.

“There is definitely no threat to the general public at this time,” Fairfax County police spokesperson PFC Ingrid Palencia said during an evening briefing.

The shooting shocked residents of the Centreville neighborhood, which neighbors described as a quiet, close-knit residential community. The heavy police presence and crime-scene investigation continued for hours as detectives worked to reconstruct the circumstances leading to the deaths.

Although officials have indicated that the incident was domestic-related, investigators have not yet publicly classified the deaths as a murder-suicide or provided other conclusions about the circumstances. Those determinations will depend on the ongoing investigation and examination of evidence from inside the residence.

For the children who were home during the shooting, the immediate focus is now on safety, family support and helping them cope with the traumatic loss. Police said victim-services personnel were assisting those affected.

The deaths have left relatives and neighbors facing a devastating loss while detectives continue searching for answers. Authorities have not yet announced funeral arrangements or released further information about the couple.

The investigation remains active, and Fairfax County police are expected to provide additional details when they can be confirmed. For now, officials have emphasized that there is no continuing threat to the Centreville community, while the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation.
